Flowers, Angel’s Rest Trail
Flowers on Angel’s Rest trail. A very popular hiking spot in the beautiful Columbia Gorge. It was a damp rainy day in the middle of summer. That’s why you see water droplets on the flower. I liked this flower for the striking colors. Shot with Nikon D80 with Nikon 18-200mm VR lens. No modifications besides cropping.Z
Dublin Graffiti
Wall graffiti in Temple Bar are in Dublin, Ireland. This blue and yellow graffiti on a building corner almost looked like it was glowing under the sodium vapor lights. I was able to get a sharp picture at 1/8s shutter speed with the 18-200mm VR lens. It’s very rare to get a sharp picture at such a slow shutter speed. I was just lucky. I have used ‘high key’ filter to enhance the effect of blue paint.
Ram Family
This ram family was resting along the Lake Minnewanka loop road near Two Jack Lake in Banff National Park, Canada. Shot with Nikon D90 with Nikon 18-200mm VR.
Dead Tree
A dead tree in Glacier National Park on the Going-to-the-Sun-Road. This photo has been enhanced with adjustments to color, white balance and ‘low key’ filter. Shot with Nikon D90 with Nikon 18-200mm VR lens. Shot from a moving vehicle in bright day light.
Sunset at Flathead
Sunset at the Flathead Lake. We were taking a cruise in the lake while this photo was taken with Nikon D90 and Nikon 18-200mm VR lens. I have used a Brilliance/Warmth filter to enhance the orange glow in the sky and also done some retouching to adjust the color of the sky.
New York New York, Las Vegas
A popular photo spot opposite the New York New York hotel in Las Vegas. I had taken same photo some 12 years ago at the same spot. Compare to notice the advances in technology. I had to work a lot on old photo (shot with film camera and then scanned negative) to remove noise, get correct white balance and remove some blemishes on the negative. This time around you see pretty much exactly what came out of my camera (digital this time) with only cropping and color cast removal. Shot with Nikon D90 and Nikon 18-200mm VR lens without a tripod.
Excalibur, Las Vegas
Hotel Excalibur, Las Vegas. Shot with Nikon D90 and Nikon 18-200mm VR lens, without a tripod. Brilliance/Warmth filter used to enhance the warm colors.
Bellagio, Las Vegas
A lucky shot in the fading daylight while we were having dinner in a outdoor restaurant opposite Bellagio. Believe it or not, I have not done any retouching on this photo beyond a simple crop and some noise cancelling. The colors are as they came out of camera. I use +3 Vivid setting all the time. Shot with Nikon D90 and Nikon 18-200mm VR lens, hendheld.
Bellagio, Las Vegas
Hotel Bellagio in the fading light of the day. The color of clouds has been enhanced with the Brilliance/Warmth filter. Shot handheld with Nikon D90 and Nikon 18-200mm VR lens.
Flowers, Bellagio Conservatory
A closeup of flowers in Bellagio Conservatory, Las Vegas. Shot with Nikon D90 and Nikon 18-200mm VR lens.
The Ant, Bellagio Conservatory, Las Vegas
Bellagio Conservatory is a nice place for kids and adults for a few minutes of amusement. This ant (especially the big beady eyes) caught my attention. The light here is very good for photos. Shot with Nikon D90 and Nikon 18-200 VR.
Monte Carlo, Las Vegas
Hotel Monte Carlo, Las Vegas. Shot with Nikon D90 and Nikon 18-200mm VR lens without a tripod. I added a ‘high key’ filter to enhance the lighting.
Harley Davidson Cafe, Las Vegas
This Harley Davidson sign with bright red, white colors was very interesting. In reality the colors came out slightly different than what I saw them there. I didn’t bother playing with the white balance settings later. Shot with Nikon D90 with Nikon 18-200 VR lens without a tripod.
Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas
Planet Hollywood and Paris. Two iconic hotels in Las Vegas in all their night glory. Shot with Nikon D90 without a tripod. The newer digital cameras are getting very good at high-ISO performance that you don’t need to carry a tripod for a decent photo. I have done some post processing to remove noise and boost contrast.
Vancouver, BC Cityscape
Summer 2008. Vancouver, BC. A photo taken at sunset, from the SeaBus. You can see silhouette of the South Vancouver with prominent landmarks like the Vancouver Lookout. The shiny building in the foreground is Canada Place. This photo was taken from inside a glass window and there was some reflection of the inside lights that I have tried to remove but if you look carefully you’ll see that I’ve not completely succeeded.

Bleach Bypass
Bleach Bypass is an optical technique first used in 1960s to reduce saturation and exposure range. These days you can just use a filter in a photo editing software to add this effect. I have tried giving this photo a different look by adding this filter. I wanted to accentuate the expression on her face by adding this effect.
Exposure comp.: -0.3
Flash: +1.0, bounce flash.
A Holi picture on Holi Day!
Shraddha in Holi colors. A Holi picture on Holi Day. March 2009. Redmond, WA. Shot with Nikon D80 camera with 18-200mm VR lens. Though it appears like she’s posing for a portrait, she was actually helping herself with food on the dining table while I called her to look at the camera and clicked.
